Would you like purple as your lounge wall colour?

Im asking this because I’ve recently moved into a flat and in the lounge its painted pale blue above the skirting board and below is on dark but bright purple. I dont like it, I think it makes the room feel like a play school or something. Im going to paint it white and pale green. Everyone who comes over really likes the current colour though!

no.. i think purple is no where near a relaxing colour, esp for a living room… white and pale green sounds perfect to me, though it might feel slightly cool for winter months, but you gain visual space by keeping the colours light, can’t go too wrong with these colours, though, have you thought of pale green & cream?

Disney World Tickets – Park Hopper And Magic Your Way

You would be forgiven for thinking that you need a degree in rocket science to understand the Disney World ticket system. At first look it is a confusing array of options with strange terms such as park hopper and Magic Your Way. Don’t worry though, not all ticket types are available to all guests and once you understand the basics you will be able to narrow down the list to find the ticket type which is most appropriate for your Walt Disney World vacation.

The ticket options range from a One Day One Park option which as it says on the label is good for one day’s admission to one of the four theme parks, to the top of the range Premium Annual Pass which will get you into every Disney World theme and water park with park hopper privileges every day for 365 days.

An average family, staying for a week’s vacation will have about a dozen different ticket options to choose from. Spending the time to understand the different perks included with the different options could save you lots of money, which is important if you are interested in cheap Disney vacations. A little time spent on research will help you avoid purchasing a more expensive ticket which has features you’ll probably never use.

In 2005 Disney introduced the Magic Your Way ticket system, which is essentially a pick ‘n mix way to buy your admission tickets. You start out with a Base Ticket and then add on various options to tailor the ticket to your needs. There is a volume discount, so the more days admission you add to your Base Ticket the lower the cost of a day’s entry becomes. Base Tickets can be bought for a minimum of one and a maximum of ten day’s admission. You can only visit one park per day with a Base Ticket and they expire 14 days from the first date of use.

There are three add-on options available at an additional cost to increase the flexibility of your Base Ticket.
1. Park Hopper – For a flat fee you can add park hopping privileges to your ticket, which allows you to visit more than one park each day. If you are only buying one or two day’s admission this can prove expensive, but becomes a more affordable option for longer visits.

2. No Expiration Date – Daily entry becomes cheaper the more day’s admission you buy so if you are planning a short trip consider buying a ten day pass and adding the no expiration date option. This means that any unused days never expire so you can use the pass on a future vacation. The option price depends on the number of days you add to your Base Ticket but cannot be added to a one-day pass.

3. Plus Pack – If you want to visit the water parks or Disney Quest then you might want to consider adding a plus to your Base Ticket. The number of pluses you can buy is fixed and is tied to the number of days on your Base Ticket. for example a one, two or three-day ticket has two plusses while a ten-day ticket has five.

It is possible to add options to your ticket after you have bought it, so you can start with a Base Ticket and then choose to add park hopper privileges or plusses after you have started using it.

Annual Passes provide unlimited admission to the four theme parks for one year and an add-on is available to give unlimited admission to the water parks too. Perks available to Annual Pass holders include free parking, shopping discounts and ad hoc room rate discounts at Disney hotels.

If you are travelling from the United Kingdom then your ticket choices are different. A number of advance purchase tickets are available to British travellers including a Five-Day Premium Ticket which includes park hopping privileges to all four theme parks for five days and three admissions to the water parks. The Seven-Day Premium ticket increases this to seven day’s admission and five water park admissions. Both expire 14-days from first use. Alternatively the Ultimate Tickets provide unlimited admission to the theme and water parks as well as park hopping privileges for either 14 or 21 days.

Before you choose your ticket options you need to have an idea about what you want to do during your vacation; it does not make sense to pay for options that you won’t get around to using after all. Don’t forget that sometimes you might save money in the long run by buying a more expensive ticket. For example if you plan to visit Walt Disney World on vacation again next year see if you can travel a couple of weeks earlier as this will allow you to take advantage of the Annual Pass options; effectively using the same ticket for both vacations. As Disney often offers hotel discounts to Annual Pass holders you might find that the discount you can obtain on next year’s accommodation more than covers the additional cost of the pass.

Best way to get from Disney World to Universal Orlando?

We’ll be staying at a Disney resort, and I know they offer free shuttle service to/from the hotel and Disney parks, but what’s the best (cheapest) way to get from Disney to Universal Orlando? We’d like to go there several times during our stay, and renting a car isn’t an option for us. Thanks!

you might want to see if they have any buses that go that way. by the time you get a taxi you are looking at the same price as renting a small car.
i know you said renting a car isnt an option…you can get small cars for like 20-25 bucks a day.
sometimes they upgrade you for free
when we go down there we always rent a car because of the crazy drivers if they hit the rental im not worried about it, i always get the damage waver. and we just drove from disney to Universal.
if you will be going several times there really isnt a “cheap” way to get there… i would ask your service desk in your resort about inexpensive ways to get from point a to point b and find out if any bus services go out that way…..
its kind of hard to do siteseeing when you dont have your own ride down there. things are spread out….

Time to Build an Altar and Pitch A Tent

My husband and I have been feeling the financial crunch of the recent economic woes our country is going through.  I imagine most of us in this country save for people like Warren Buffet or the latest PowerBall winner are feeling a pinch in our purse strings as of late. 

We are blessed.  Right now my husband still is gainfully employed, I have had my book published, our children are healthy,  we have cars to drive, and a roof over our heads.   However, things can change in the blink of an eye.  Foreclosure and repossession of vehicles is always a possibilty when money is tight. 

I will admit that our financial concerns have been pressing on my mind, so much so that yesterday when I heard Hank Williams Jr’s song Red, White, and Pink Slip Blues I was on the verge of tears.  In the song, he sings of hiding his truck at a friend’s  because they are going to need it when they come to take the house away. 

As I thought about that song, I thought too that getting upset over losing material possesions like a home or a vehicle is not really the right thing to do.   Obviously we have worked hard to provide a home and keep a van so we can travel where we need to go, but it is really the most  important thing in our lives? 

If you look to God’s Word you soon discover the answer to that question.  When we read about Abraham’s story in Genesis we soon discover that he always did 2 things when he moved anywhere.  Firstly, he always built an altar.  Secondly, he pitched a tent.  In Genesis 12:8 we see an example of this, “And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD.” Abraham built an altar and pitched a tent.

Abraham always built something permanant, an altar to God as a response to God’s promise to him.  The altar symbolizes our consecration and worship to God; our spiritual life.   The tent symbolizes all of our earthly possessions and achievements; our physical and material life.  Abraham always put the altar before the tent because worship must come before blessings can be received.  

 Think about a tent.  A tent has no foundation.  No permanency.  It is transitory by nature.  When you pitch a tent, you aren’t intending to stay there forever.  This should be the nature of our physical lives.  Yet so many of us try to make material things into permanent foundations of our lives.  Focusing and stressing out on mortgage payments, car payments instead of focusing on God puts our lives out of order.  We are building our tents and pitching our altars.  I am not saying we shouldn’t pay our bills, but we need to focus on worshipping and returning to God first before anything else.   Our souls get along well when God has His proper place in our lives.  When things get out of place in our lives and they seem a mess, its because God is not in His place in our lives.

So how do we build an altar first and pitch our tents second?  If we look to Genesis 35:1-5 we can find the formula for this. First we need to return our lives to God.  We need to rededicate our lives to Him.  We need to make God first priorty in our lives and not the house, the car, the boat, etc.  We need to rekindle that flame of first love of God in our hearts.   Next, we need to reject idols in our lives.  I am not talking about American Idol here.  I am speaking about anything in our lives that has taken God’s place.  Anything that has become our priorty above God.  Anything that has robbed us of our devotion to God.  It could in fact, be entertainment like American Idol  or it could be money, people, or even ministry.  We also need to purify ourselves.  We need to rid our lives of any of bad habits and sins that keep us from building our altars to God.  Finally, we need to remember our vows to God.  We must honor God with our vows and tithes. 

Its not an easy path to take, but we must get our priorties in order.  We need to not worry about what tent we are living in.  We need to concern ourselves with building that altar to our God.  If we do so, we will find that He will indeed provide.  We need to strive to build an altar and pitch our tent.

How do soldiers stay motivated?

If your homeland economy is in the tank, you don’t know if you will keep getting your pay for fighting in the war.

Well, for starters I’m still getting paid, no sense in worrying about something that hasn’t happened yet, if it happens at all, which is doubtful. My family hasn’t forgotten about me and I’m looking at my wife right now, so I’m not divorced. If I got divorced, it would be her loss anyway, but I’d wish her luck anyway. I don’t want someone that doesn’t want me. Here’s a newsflash: A majority of Military spouses support their husbands (or wives) 110%, I have two nice cars, a nice house and a great job too (We get to shoot back, it’s awesome). The people back home can support us or not, it doesn’t matter to us, Soldiers support each other and we don’t need spineless, whiny civillians supporting us when they can’t even stand up for themselves. You can keep that kind of “support”. As for the media, When did they become the subject matter experts on the war? The answer is never. I’d listen the the men and women that live it everyday before some journalist who has never been to Iraq or if they have it was just for a quick story and back to the states. That 19 or 20 year old Infantryman knows more about the war than any journalist or civillian, period. As for the innocent women and children being killed everyday for no reason at all, There’s a reason for everything and the reason is that Islamic extremists have used them as a political tool to drum up negative opinions such as yours. In other words the Extremists purposely target the civillians.

Taking Care of Camping Tents

Along with sleeping bags, camping tents are standard equipment for campers. In fact, almost no camper would go out without a tent.

Camping tents are portable shelters small enough to be folded or rolled and carried by one person. Tents consist of a sheet of fabric of similar material draped over or attached to a frame of poles. Modern tents have durable waterproof fabrics and foldable aluminum poles.

Camping tents vary in size. There are those that are large enough to sleep one person. Others are quite large and can sleep a whole family. Modern camping tents can be pitched in five to ten minutes.

Although camping tents are designed to be tough, rugged, and durable to stand against nature’s elements, they are not maintenance-free. Camping tents will last as long as their owners take care of them. Maintaining the quality of camping tents is essential; a tent is usually the only thing that stands between a camper and survival.

Here are some tips on how to take care of camping tents.

1) Camping tents should be waterproofed. Most tent manufacturers indicate that their tents are waterproof, and all the seals and stitches are sealed. However, it would be better if you double-seal them for additional safety. Expert outdoorsmen recommend contacting the manufacturer and use the seam sealer the company is using to reseal the seals.

2) Bring extra parts when camping. Bringing along extra zippers, duct tape, fabric, and other materials will help you make field repairs. Remember that the longer it takes to repair the damage, the greater the damage will become.

3) Practice setting up the tent. By practicing how to set up your camping tent, you will have a lesser chance of ripping, bending, or breaking parts of the tent. It will also allow you to set up the tent quickly.

4) Bring the correct states and use them. Stakes help secure the tent to the ground. If you are camping in good weather and on firm ground, then regular stakes are adequate. If you are setting up in loose soil, or if the weather is windy, then sturdier stakes are required. Make sure that the correct tension is applied to the stakes.

5) Avoid setting up camping tents in direct sunlight. Even if camping tents are advertised as all-weather, they take damage from direct exposure from the sun. UV light from direct sunlight weakens and deteriorates the fabric of the tents. Therefore it is best to set up tents in the shade.

6) Use ground cover. Before setting up a camping tent, it is recommended that a tent footprint or tarp be placed on the ground where the tent is pitched. This protects the floor of the tent from dirt, rocks, twigs, and other objects that can rip the tent’s base. It also helps keep the water on the ground out of the tent.

7) Ventilate the tent properly. Moisture can accumulate inside a tent. Opening a window or a flap will keep the inside of the tent from condensing.

After each use, thoroughly clean and dry the tent. This prolongs tent life.

Remember that camping tents are like fine wine; with proper care, they improve with age.
