Pygmy date palm is a slow growing date palm and while related to the edible date producing palm it is not the same. I suppose if it makes dates you could try eating them.
Fruits of the Pygmy date palm, Phoenix roebelenii, ( Arecaceae family) are supposed to be edible, but almost never consumed. A reason for this disaffection could be that this date is not very fleshy and its taste doesn`t knock your socks off
Interesting, I was going to ask the same question just now. I really want a date palm that actually produces edible dates, and I was wondering if these did, but so far from my researcy it seems that although the fruit of these is edible, they’re not all that good compared to real dates, so that pretty much rules it out for me… I want the real thang.
