Can anyone help identify this palm tree?
November 20th, 2009 WalterThis palm tree might be a fan palm, or something like that, but I’m not quite sure. Any gardenening experts out there that can tell me a bit about this palm? Common/Scientific Name would be most helpful. Thank you so much! This palm was found in Southern California, if that matters, but it was lanscaped in my backyard.

that is a windmill palm/trachypus forntei.
people plant these along the highways in california where they are uncared for. since given little care they look ugly and that is why people in california call them trash apus fortei
these palms are beautiful when give car. these are also extremely cold hardy. these can survive temperatures all the way to 0 F. also a common palm in vancouver.
these palms need pruning though so they stay healthy and pretty. prune off those large bottom leaves only leaving the top. here is a photo of some one in southern california who has pruned the fibers off the trunk
