Thinking about planting a queen palm. Any drawbacks? Comments?

November 16th, 2009 Walter

I have a corner of my lot, fairly sunny, that I would like to plant a queen palm. I saw them on sale at Lowes. I read they may drop messy fruit. Since I have a sidewalk five feet away i was wondering how often I’d be picking up messy fruit. Thoughts anyone? I’ve never had a palm before. I live in the SF bay area.

  1. Queen palm either grow too fast or get some fungal disease and on top are very hard to prune.. Yeah that’s right the fruit get really messy… Please choose another type of palm…or check with a local nursery to find the right one for your space.

  2. they are nice/ they are also common and easily cared for. may need a little protection from wind, and if there is a continuous freeze a little protection as well. cold hady to 15 so should be no problem
