		<description>The ferns do not damage the palm, they are just along for the ride, living in the rotted boots (leaf bases) of the palm.  Watch as you drive around SW Florida (I live in the same area) you will see that it is a fairly common site, particularly on older palms.  If they seem unsightly to you, you can remove them.</description>
