Departure Media recently unveiled the new Brookgreen Gardens and Jack Thompson Photography exhibits at the Myrtle Beach International Airport. The Brookgreen Gardens exhibit, entitled Mountain Fishing, depicts a life-size mountain lion bronze sculpture in its natural habitat. The lion was a gift to Brookgreen in 2006 from James and Mary Flagg Haugh of Fayetteville, NC The concept of the mountain lions natural habitat is exemplified by the use of native and exotic plants adapted to the South Carolina coastal climate. Norfolk Island Pines provide height and horizontal movement in the background of the sculpture, while Angel Wing Begonia, Maidenhair Fern, Sweet Potato Vine and Bromeliad are used to create color, texture and pattern. Sago Palm, Fountain Grass, Variegated Dracaenas and Elephant Ears are also used to punctuate the design and add visual interest. The Brookgreen Gardens exhibit is positioned in the central circulation/TSA queuing area of the airport. The Jack Thompson photo exhibit features a print of one of Thompsons most memorable photos. A reproduction of Thompsons South Carolina logo photograph is centered on the Welcome to Myrtle Beach soffit in the arrivals area of the airport. The photograph was enlarged, reproduced and mounted with an aluminum border. Thompson is recognized as the premier photographer of Myrtle Beach and the Myrtle Beach lifestyle.
